OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro specs are to be released officially on April 14. There have been plenty of reports and speculation about the new phone lineup being one of the most awaited smartphones of 2020. In fact, we know pretty much all about the handset, thanks to the recent leaks and renders, before launch.
The phone is already up for reservations on China’s JD.com and will go on sale from April 17 (a day after it launches in China). The international OnePlus 8 launch is scheduled for April 14.
Since we are just a week away from the official launch of the OnePlus 8 series, let’s look closely at what to expect in terms of design, specifications, and price for OnePlus 8.
OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro Design
We don’t expect radical improvements to this year’s OnePlus 8 series design. Both models will share common design features including a front-up punch-hole camera and back-up camera pill-shaped housing. What possibly makes this time around the biggest difference is the inclusion of a curved monitor on the regular OnePlus 8. So, Curved AMOLED panels may display both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.
The regular OnePlus 8 should feature a triple camera setup on the back while a quad camera setup with Laser Autofocus should also feature the OnePlus 8 Pro.
OnePlus CEO has reported that the regular OnePlus 8 with 8 mm thickness will be light at 180 grams. The weight of the Pro version is not to exceed 200gms.
The remainder of the type factor will be the same as the generations before it. And you’ll get the classic warning scale over the power button on the right side, USB-C port at the bottom and NO headphone jack. At least, it is rumored that the OnePlus 8 Pro has IP68 certification-a first for an OnePlus smartphone.
This year’s OnePlus 8 series will come in interesting color choices that could include Interstellar Light, Glacier Green and Ultramarine Blue as well as the regular black version.
Also today the company published a promo video for the show, check it out below.
OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro Display
The display is going to be one of the highlights of the new OnePlus 8 series. Last year, the OnePlus 7 Pro got A+ from DisplayMate and unsurprisingly, the new OnePlus 8 series gets the same rating this year too!
The study adds that the display on the forthcoming lineup “sets or matches more than 10 Mobile Monitor Output Records for the best displays on the market in nearly all key categories, including color quality, image contrast, monitor brightness and screen reflection, with 4 categories marked Visually Indistinguishable from Ideal.”
A Samsung-made 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED display with 2 K 3168 x 1440p resolution, 120Hz fast screen refresh rate (possibly 240Hz touch sampling rate) and HDR10 + support will come with the Pro edition. OnePlus has also stated that a new MEMC chip for upscaling video and gaming to a higher frame rate would appear in the Pro series.
A 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED display with FHD+ 2400 x 1080p resolution, 90Hz screen refresh rate and HDR10 + will potentially appear on the regular OnePlus 8.
The OnePlus 8 series will also have Anti- glass of the company’s fifth generation. We have no news about its display security but the Corning gorilla glass 6 should be featured there.
OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro Specs
All smartphones will come with Qualcomm’s X55 modem with the Snapdragon 865 flagship chip. That ensures they’ll both provide funding for the new- 5 G network.
Under the hood, both the versions will feature ROM choices of 128 GB and 256 GB UFS 3.0 (confirmed). The OnePlus 8, though, is said to use the older LPDDR4X model with 8 GB and 12 GB RAM versions when it comes to the Cpu, while the Pro version will use the latest LPDDR5 model with the same Cpu options.
Stereo speakers and Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 support with aptX audio are planned to feature The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The phone is reported to have a new, better than its predecessor, haptic feedback engine.
All phones will run Android 10 from the box, potentially with the latest update of OxygenOS and Dark Mode 2.0 that provides support for more applications.
OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro cameras
This year, the OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to update to a substantially upgraded camera configuration. The firm is expected to launch two high-resolution cameras on the Pro model, one of which will be the latest Sony sensor IMX689 48MP-the same one from the OPPO Find X2 series. Additional 48MP lens will be available for excellent ultra wide-angle images. In reality, OnePlus CEO has just posted a few ultra-wide-angle night camera samples from today’s Pro camera and they looked pretty amazing! A new color filter sensor is also planned to be applied to the phone but we are not aware of its exact function.
OnePlus 8 Pro camera specs
- 48MP IMX689 Sony Sensor with f/1.78 (OIS + EIS)
- 48MP IMX586 Sony Sensor with f/2.2 and 120-degree FOV
- 8MP Telephoto sensor with f/2.4 – 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom (OIS)
- 5MP Color Filter sensor with f/2.4
- Laser AF and Dual LED flash
Both versions will accommodate a maximum resolution of 4 K 60fps on video capture.
For the front camera, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will have 16MP selfie punch-hole cameras with apertures of f/2.0 and f/2.4, respectively.
OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro Battery
Both the latest oneplus models will increase the power of the battery this year. It is a much-needed improvement despite their support for 5 G screens and higher refresh rate.
The OnePlus 8 is said to feature a fast 30W Warp Charge 30 T battery with a 4300mAh battery.
The OnePlus 8 Pro will come with a 4510mAh battery with 30W fast charging and (confirmed) 30W moderate wireless charging. Ironically, 3W reverse wireless charging is expected to help the handset too!
OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro Pricing
OnePlus 8 series reports indicate a sharp increase in both devices ‘starting prices. With the 8 GB RAM and 128 GB version the OnePlus 8 will launch at € 729 with the 12 GB and 256 GB edition starting at € 835. As for the OnePlus 8 Pro, the 8 GB + 128 GB edition will launch at € 930 and go up to € 1.020 for the 12 GB + 256 GB version.
Compared with its predecessors there would be a major improvement in cost. But the inclusion of 5G, advanced features including a MEMC chip, 120Hz monitor, SD865 and even wireless charging could potentially drive the entire OnePlus 8 series out of the affordable price segment.
All OnePlus 8 models are expected to go on sale in Europe as of April 30.
