The presentation of the new major update from Apple for its iPhone made you want to test iOS 14 now? We have good and bad news for you: Apple has launched the beta version of iOS 14 for developers, but it is not yet available to the public.
However, there is a simple way to download the beta version of iOS 14, it consists of registering as an Apple developer… for the payment of 99 dollars (around 90 euros), for one year of access to the Apple Developer Program. You can also wait for the iOS 14 public beta to be released in July. You will then have two to three months to evaluate the new OS, just before the probable introduction of the iPhone 12.
Note that not all iPhone will be able to download iOS 14 – any device older than iPhone 6S or newer will not be able to get either the beta or the full version of iOS 14 when it arrives a little later in the year.
Rest assured: if you were able to install iOS 13, then it will be just as easy for you to download the beta version of iOS 14 for developers. Is your iPhone compatible? Here are all the detailed instructions to get the update of your mobile device and get started on iOS 14!
Register on the Apple Developer Program platform
You must be part of the Apple Partner Developer Program to access the first beta version of iOS 14. To register, go to the official website and follow the recommendations of the Cupertino company (listed here ). You will need an Apple ID and some personal information like your first and last name, as well as your mailing address. You will also have to pay an annual fee of $ 99. This will allow you to benefit from iOS 14 but also all the advanced functions of the apps in the App Store.
Before installing iOS 14, back up your iPhone data
Don’t be in a hurry, better to backup your mobile data before updating your iPhone. In the event of a problem, you will be able to restore the settings of your smartphone, its applications and its various content to your last backup point.
The beta version of iOS 14 is likely to be buggy or to crash regularly (by definition, a beta test is to find problems on the software). It would be a shame if your first experience with iOS 14 ended in an uncontrollable rage over what will serve you as an operating system in a few months.
Download the iOS 14 user profile
To get Apple’s update before its official deployment, you will need to download the beta profile on a compatible device. Go to developer.apple.com/download and follow the instructions to download the profile.
First press the three horizontal lines of the “hamburger” menu, at the top left of the screen. Then press the “Downloads” option. Scroll down until you see the beta version of iOS 14. Tap the “Install profile” button. The installation file will then be placed on your phone. You must, therefore, install it manually from your general settings.
Download and install iOS 14
Once the beta profile of iOS 14 is installed, stay in the “Settings” menu, scroll down to the “General” option and select “Software update”. If the previous steps were followed correctly, you should finally be able to download iOS 14 (at least its beta version). Please note, this is an update of approximately 5 GB. Remember to charge your iPhone and go for a secondary occupation for a certain period of time.
